Committees, Councils & Task Forces
All Home Builders Association of Dayton members and their associates are invited to join any and all committees, councils and/or task forces which hold a personal or professional interest for them.
Serving on a committee allows a member to become more involved in the Home Builders Association of Dayton and increase their networking opportunities. Serving on a council or task force rewards each member with influence, prestige, industry knowledge and the opportunity to expand their business while advancing the Association.
Committees
Executive Committee
Chair: Robi Simms, Simms Development
The Executive Committee is the steering committee for the Home Builders Association of Daytonand its leadership. It is the duty of this committee to recommend the administrative policies of the Association, to recommend policies to the Board of Directors, and to advise, assist and direct the Executive Director in carrying out his or her duties.
The Executive Committee is comprised of the Association’s officers, an At-Large Builder appointee and an At-Large Associate appointee. This committee meets at least once a month prior to the regular meeting of the Board of Directors.
Budget and Finance Committee
Chair: Richard Graf, Hammerman, Graf, Hughes & Co., Inc. CPAs
The Budget and Finance Committee remains abreast of all financial matters of the Association and makes recommendations to the Board of the Directors. This committee also prepares the annual budget. It is comprised of the President, Vice President, Treasurer and four (4) members appointed by the President.
Builders/Developers Committee
Builders/Developers Chair: Lance Oakes, Project Manager at Design Homes and Oakes Tree Development
(Update 07/01/2020) The Builders and Developers Forum met virtually and were joining by NAHB Chief Economist, Rob Dietz Ph.D., who provided an economic outlook for the country and how housing will be a leader in the recovery. To see Dr. Dietz's slide, please click here.
HBA Showcase Home
HBA Showcase Home Chair: TBA
The HBA Showcase Home Committee of the Home Builders Association of Dayton is dedicated to the creation and build of HBA Showcase Homes. Through best practices in building, latest technologies and decor, and high performance home options, the HBA Showcase Home will highlight the possibilities and latest trends of home building.
Homearama Committee
Chair: TBD
The Homearama Committee helps to plan, organize, implement and coordinate all aspects of the Association’s annual Homearama Touring Edition event (the scattered-site home show conducted by the Association).
Note: Homearama® Touring Edition was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19.
Membership Committee
Co-Chairs: Erika Deady, Oberer Homes and Gina Coates, Coates Custom Homes
The Membership Committee oversees the ongoing recruitment and membership support for our Association. The Membership Committee is responsible for welcoming and educating new members at New Member Orientations and General Membership Meetings.
Nominating Committee
Chair: Erika Deady, Oberer Companies
The Nominating Committee is the recommendation panel for candidates to the Board of Directors. This committee is comprised of the President, Vice President, Immediate Past President and four (4) members appointed by the President.
Quality Experience Program Committee
Chair: Robi Simms, Simms Development
The Home Builders Association of Dayton provides a mediation process for complaints against an Association member filed by a homeowner. If a dispute does arise, the Quality Experience Program Committee will strive to maintain open lines of communication between the consumer and the Association member.

Councils
Large Volume Builders/Developers Council
Chair: Lance Oakes, Design Homes and Oakes Tree Development
The Large Volume Builders/Developers Council consists of members involved in the land development or large volume home building. The primary purposes of this council is to promote and advocate equitable development standards by educating local city and county officials about ordinances and policies affecting land development. The council strives to maintain a high level of professionalism through continuing governmental relations and representation.
Past Presidents Council
Chair: Adam Zengel, Adam Zengel Builder
The Past Presidents Council is comprised of past presidents who provide guidance where precedent, rationale and intent of previous actions, and lessons learned from past events, all of which are used in considerations during the decision making process for current issues.
This council serves as a resource for historical information and supports the activities of the Home Builders Association of Dayton membership, Board of Directors and Committees as directed by the President. The council advises the Executive Board on issues of importance to the Association.

Sales/Marketing and Associates Council
Chair: Katie Cutter, JEM Designs
The Sales/Marketing and Associates Council (SMAC) strives to connect members of the Home Builders Association of Dayton and provide a forum to exchange ideas, develop professional skills, give recognition and celebrate success within the industry. Through innovative educational programs and networking events, SMAC provides valuable tools for sales and marketing professionals, which result in a smarter, stronger home building industry.
Small/Custom Builders and Remodeler’s Council
Chair: Mike Dorsten, Beaver-Vu Construction
The Small/Custom Builders and Remodeler’s Council offers a valuable referral network. Council members enjoy the benefit of being identified as reputable builders/remodelers and upholding standards of practice as well as offering a unified "quality" image to consumers. The mission of the Small/Custom Builders and Remodeler’s Council is to form an alliance among custom builders and remodelers to achieve the highest level of professionalism and integrity; to offer our customers quality construction and excellent customer service in the industry; to offer continuing education to enhance our abilities; to provide an open forum for communication and exchanging ideas; and to strengthen the Association’s political position to help the residential construction industry.
Task Forces
BUILD-PAC
Chair: Robi Simms, Charles Simms Development
The Home Builders Association of Dayton’s Political Action Task Force (BUILD-PAC) works within the local and state election processes to further the goals of the Association by supporting candidates for elected office who support our issues and the construction industry. Activities may include raising funds for BUILD-PAC, contacting elected and appointed officials, lobbying and testifying at meetings.
High Performance Home
Chair: N/A
High performance home construction, also known as sustainable or green building, incorporates construction and development techniques, materials and designs intended to minimize a home’s impact on the environment and conserve natural resources. High performance construction is a practical response to a wide range of issues affecting all consumers. These include such concerns as rising energy costs, the need to ensure clean water and minimize water usage and the need to improve air quality. In short, home builders strive to maximize efficiency and sustainability in every aspect of new home construction and in home remodeling.
Strategic Plan

In 2013, Home Builders Association of Dayton Strategic Plan task force members developed a plan to guide the Association on a path toward success. Through this careful analysis, goals and objectives for the Association were developed to provide more opportunities for members to connect directly with potential customers, improve educational opportunities and advocate on behalf of members. Each year the Strategic Plan is revisited and updated as needed.
Workforce Development
Chair: Brian Albrecht, Rhoads Estate Homes, Inc.
The Workforce Development Task Force will attempt to address the workforce issues facing the construction industry and Home Builders Association of Dayton members. The Workforce Development Task Force will assess member needs and priorities, as well as search for solutions to ease the workforce strain.
