Health & Wellness Breakfast a Success!

Thanks to Kitchens.Inspired!

The Home Builders Association of Dayton (HBA) partnered with Kitchens.Inspired for the first-ever Health & Wellness Breakfast for the membership on Tuesday, August 20. Joining the discussion were key stakeholders from across our extended network to provide resources, talking points, and action items for those in attendance to begin addressing their physical health, mental health, job site safety, and nutritional health.

Over the past two decades, suicide rates have risen, particularly among construction professionals. The COVID pandemic accelerated an already dire crisis, giving way to what many mental health professionals have called the “second pandemic.”

Though more people than ever are comfortable discussing mental health, finding effective resources and knowing how to get help remains a challenge. The Health & Wellness Breakfast provided an open-source movement to drive culture from health awareness to health action.

“I hope we all realize this is very serious and that we begin to notice how construction workers feel, and if we sense something is wrong, we should not ignore it and try to help," said C.E.O. Eric Farrell. "Additionally, there is no greater investment our members can make than in their own health and wellness and that of their employees. We can play a key role in shaping the culture of an industry."

Recognizing a need for resources focused on the construction industry, NAHB last year launched an initiative focused on member mental health and wellbeing with financial support from ASAE Research Foundation and the Job-Site Safety Institute. Via NAHB membership, confidential mental health screening developed by MindWise Innovations, an NAHB partner in the initiative, are provided to members within their benefits. Brief screenings are the quickest way to determine if you or someone you care about should connect with a behavioral health professional. Think of these as a checkup from your neck up. This program is completely anonymous and confidential, and immediately following the brief questionnaire you will see your results, recommendations, and key resources.
